Singapore recently announced an initiative to appreciate National Service. The NS LifeSG Credits program gives $189 in digital credits to both current and former servicemen as a sign of gratitude for their commitment to the nation.
Who Is Eligible For The $189 Credits!
The scheme focuses on two categories of servicemen. Firstly, all Full-Time National Servicemen (NSFs) who joined on or before December 31, 2024, qualify. Also, all Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) whether still active or having completed their active service period, qualify.
Most importantly, servicemen who are eligible do not have to submit a claim. The system recognizes eligibility and informational claims are sent through SMS and formal letters.
Accessing Your LifeSG Credits!
After verifying eligibility, the LifeSG application automatically credits $189 to benefits. Servicemen will find these credits in the “Your Benefits” section of the application. Their digital format allows easy access to transactions throughout Singapore.
For those more accustomed to traditional ways, hardcopy vouchers can be requested through the NS Call Centre’s toll-free number or email service.
Where Can You Spend the $189 Credits!
These credits can also be used with many merchants throughout Singapore. Payments can be made using PayNow UEN or NETS QR codes, making in-store and online purchases seamless.
Many partnered merchants provide additional benefits to LifeSG Credit holders, allowing users to gain even more value from the $189.
Key Timelines to Note!
Users should be aware the LifeSG Credits have a validity period of one year from issuance. Servicemen are thus advised to utilize the credits within this timeframe.
Services You Can Access!
If you need help with your credits, there are several ways you can get help. The LifeSG Helpdesk offers a line of help that is specifically related to apps. In-person help is also available at the School of Information Systems’s SG Digital Community Hubs and at the ServiceSG Centres.
The initiative is to recognise, in a practical way, the support of servicemen towards the social and economic life of the country, as well as to provide support to servicemen for essential expenditure.
