This month, recipients of grants in South Africa have something to celebrate, as SASSA has made significant increases to all types of grants. This increase will help some of the most vulnerable households in the country grappling with the ever-increasing prices of food, fuel, and electricity.
New Grant Amounts For August 2025!
In supporting South Africans during these trying economic times, the government appears to be taking some important steps with the announcement of increase in the grant amounts.
As for the older persons, those aged 60-74 years will now receive R2,230, an increase from R2,180 and those aged 75 and above will now receive R2,250, which is an increase of R50 from the previous amount.
Also, the recipients of the Disability grant are not left behind, with the amount increasing to R2,230 per month. Additionally, families receiving Child Support Grants will now receive R550, thus providing more help to the younger population of South Africa.
August 2025 Payment Schedule!
In order to improve the efficiency of the distribution of funds and to minimize congestion at payment points, SASSA has implemented a staggered payment approach:
The Older Persons Grants (including War Veterans) will be paid first on Tuesday, 5 August 2025. On Wednesday, 06 August, Disability Grants will be paid and all other grants including Child Support, Foster Child, and Care Dependency will be paid on Thursday, 07 August.
The SRD Grant of R370 has a unique schedule with payments made from August 25 to 30.

Programmatic support through social security measures demonstrates South Africa’s commitment to its vulnerable citizens. While the increases may be small, they at least offer some level of support to many households and provide welcome assistance during tough economic times.
